Position Overview:  

The Director of Institutional Advancement at Cardinal O’Hara High School serves as the Chief Advancement Officer and is responsible for leading the fundraising efforts of the school by creating a strong awareness among various constituencies that showcases the school as the ideal choice for philanthropy, volunteerism, and most importantly education of young men and women as they prepare for their futures as leaders in our Catholic faith. The Director of Institutional Advancement has the ultimate goal of significantly increasing fundraising outcomes. The advancement function includes oversight and management of the annual fund, major gift solicitations (including tax credits, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving endowments, capital campaigns) and fundraising through special events and sponsorships.  Management includes supervising the Data Specialist and the Director of Alumni Relations Manager and Stewardship.

This is a full-time 12-month position.

Responsibilities

  • Advances the mission, vision, and goals of Cardinal O’Hara High School in concert with the President and Principal.
  • Works closely with the President in all phases of advancement, including budget development, annual plans and utilizing the database for research and recordkeeping.
  • Collaborates with the President in the development of constituent relations programs in the areas of alumni relations, parent relations, and other key constituent relations.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of current fundraising activities and propose new strategies, activities, or events in order to meet fundraising goals and fulfill the school’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Oversees the Annual Fund, Special Events, Major Donor Program and tax credits program to meet annual development plan income goals.
  • Oversees fundraising events and recruits parent volunteers to assist.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with major donors, foundations, alumni and corporate funders.
  • Works with the Board of Trustees to reach fundraising goals, to engage the Board in fundraising activities, and to identify new individual and corporate funding prospects.
  • Prepares solicitation materials, including direct mail appeals and newsletters.
  • Educates internal stakeholders about fundraising.
  • Negotiates gifts and gift agreements.
  • Identifies and researches prospective donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations ensuring dynamic processes in all phases of donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of stewardship plans and participates in and assists with special events for cultivation and stewardship of major gifts prospects.
  • Serves as the staff liaison for the Development Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Catholic Education in planning and development efforts as appropriate. Provides regular reporting to OCE. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Five years of experience in fundraising is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with many diverse constituencies in a Catholic environment.
  • Strong work ethic, competitive nature, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking and planning skills are required.
  • The successful candidate will document successful solicitation of numerous major and principal gifts and present a history of building advancement programs and fundraising performance.
  • Possess initiative, leadership, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the mission of Cardinal O’Hara High School.
