Position Summary:

Bishop Shanahan High School, a Catholic, co-educational high school committed to academic excellence and faith formation, seeks a soundboard technician who can operate the sound board and oversee the student technicians. There is also a live stream component that they would run. The person would need to be available for rehearsals leading up to the events and then be present for the events. In addition to various school events the sound board technician would oversee the sound board for the Fall Musical and the Spring Play. They would also be responsible for keeping track, inventorying equipment and making recommendations when new equipment is needed. 

The system is an Allen and Heath AH-DLIVE-S5000

Key responsibilities of a soundboard technician include:

  • Setting up and operating audio equipment. This includes microphones, soundboards, amplifiers, speakers, and other related devices.
  • Operating mixing consoles. Soundboard technicians use mixing console to adjust sound levels, balance audio inputs, and create the desired sound mix. 
  • Troubleshooting audio issues. Identify and resolve technical problems that may affect sound quality, such as feedback, noise, or signal loss. 
  • Maintaining audio equipment ensuring that equipment is in good working condition through regular maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs. 
  • Conducting sound checks. Prior to events, they perform sound checks to verify that all equipment is working correctly and that sound levels are balanced. 
  • Collaborating with producers, conductors, and student technicians and performers, to achieve the desired sound for an event or recording. 
  • May be asked to set up sound equipment for events outside of the auditorium including special events in the main hallway and cafeteria using portable speakers and portable mixer

Required skills and qualities for a soundboard technician:

  • Technical aptitude: A strong understanding of audio equipment and how it functions. 
  • Aural skills: Good listening skills to identify and resolve audio problems. 
  • Problem-solving skills: The ability to troubleshoot and fix technical issues quickly and effectively. 
  • Communication skills: The ability to communicate effectively with other technicians, performers, and event staff. 
  • Attention to detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure that all aspects of sound are properly set up and adjusted. 
  • Physical stamina: As they may be required to set up and move equipment for various events. 
  • Must be able to lift and Bend: As needed for setting up equipment for events.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years experience required 5 years experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

This is a part-time, per diem position.
