Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced special education teacher/learning support specialist to join our educational teams at St. Hubert’s Catholic School for Girls and Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls. This unique position involves splitting time between the two schools to provide specialized educational support to students with diverse learning needs. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the academic success and overall well-being of our students through personalized instruction, collaboration with teachers and parents, and implementation of effective learning strategies and executive functioning skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support

  • Provide individualized instruction and support to students with identified needs, including those with learning disabilities, ADHD, and other diagnosed conditions.
  • Read and interpret specialized documentation to develop corresponding accommodation plans.
  • Teach executive functioning skills to improve organization, study habits, and time management.
  • Administer and monitor testing accommodations for students within the program.
  • Teacher Collaboration:
  • Work closely with classroom teachers as the liaison between general education courses and the learning support room.
  • Provide training and resources to teachers on best practices for inclusive education, differentiated instruction, and Universal Design for Learning.
  • Parental Engagement:
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, challenges, and strategies for support at home.

Program Development:

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the learning support program.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ learning needs and monitor their progress.
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and program effectiveness 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Preferred master’s degree in special education, Educational Psychology, or related field.
  • State certification in Special Education required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students with diverse learning needs, preferably in a high school setting.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting special education documentation.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students with diverse learning needs, preferably in a high school setting.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting special education documentation. 

Skills:

Strong knowledge of learning disabilities, executive functioning, and effective instructional strategies.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, and staff.

Ability to manage time effectively and handle a split schedule between two schools.

Proficiency in using educational technology and assistive tools.

Qualities:

  • Creativity in developing and implementing instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations.
